Care Awards

AwardsOn October 29th to celebrate excellence across the care sector The Great East of England Care Awards took place at Duxford Imperial War Museum in Cambridge.

Mrs Pat Blakeburn from Bungay and Chairman of the Friends of All Hallows Hospital, made 3 nominations for the Trust. Mrs Bev Dinsdale, House keeping Services Manager for All Hallows Hospital and All Hallows Nursing Home, Miss Rebecca Rose Activities Coordinator for St Edmunds House – a long term care unit for people with physical and sensory disabilities situated within the hospital and Mrs Mandy Hart Homecare Manager.

Clair Westwood Deamer Chief Executive of the Trust received news of the nominations when both Bev and Rebecca, better known by the staff and residents at All Hallows as Rosie had been short listed for an award and were asked to attend a video interview.

Bev was one of 3 finalists for The Care Home Nutrition and Hydration Award and Rosie was one of 3 finalists for The Care Home Activity Organiser Award. They were informed that the winners would be revealed at the ceremony at Duxford.

Bev and her husband, Pat Blakeburn and her husband along with 6 other team members from All Hallows attended and had a fantastic evening. Unfortunately Rosie couldn’t attend as she was on a family holiday in Devon. The evening was enjoyed by all.  Mark Morgahan presented the awards; his longest running role was Owen Davies, a Consultant Obstetrician, in Holby City which he played from 2001 to 2005. Approximately 350 people attended, and ate and enjoyed the entertainment under the wing of concord.

Unfortunately Bev and Rosie did not win their categories but both received a highly prodigious finalist award. Bev was presented with her award from Mark Morgahan and Chris Wingfield from All Hallows Nursing Home accepted The Care Home Activity Organiser Award on behalf of Rosie. Reaching the final and receiving 2 separate awards is fantastic news for the Trust.

It was only in September the catering department at All Hallows Nursing Home managed by Bev received 5 stars out of 5 under the scores on the doors programme from Waveney District Council showing that the home has very high hygiene standards and is fully compliant with food legislation.

All Hallows Homecare Expands Service
All Hallows now offers a Befriending Service for older people (50+)

Everyone needs other people, but not everyone has someone. For people who become isolated because of poor health, disability or social disadvantage, a befriender can fill a big gap.

The aim of the service is to reduce isolation and promote independence by providing a range of support to socially isolated, housebound older people. Benefits to clients include better quality of life as well as improved all-round health. The service will support clients to follow their hobbies and interests, which is hoped will enhance their self confidence and independence and to decrease their sense of isolation. What befrienders do depends on what a client needs; they provide the opportunity to have a cup of tea and a chat or play Scrabble and do a crossword. They may join sports activities, such as taking someone out and playing a round of golf. Go shopping, to a garden centre, or just sit and listen. The good thing a bout this service is that we can provide exactly what the clients needs. It is ideal for family carers to give them a break either for a few hours for the evening or a week.

The Service is available 7 days per week with the exception of bank holidays. A befriender can be arranged from a minimum of 1 hour to as often as you like. As a one off or on a regular basis. The beauty of this service is that we are here to assist with the needs of our clients. With direct payments from social services, individuals have the right to choose how to spend their money, so they can choose to use this service and help decrease their sense of isolation. Before direct payments were introduced social services would only pay providers for personal care. People can refer themselves, or be referred by GP’s or Social Services.
